THE DJIGENI CRAFT
A Little Bit Of Our Story
How It All Started
By Caroline Konneh
( Co-founder)
When I was a young girl in Africa, I had a grandmother who was a wonderful, caring woman. She was a very kind person, so loving and generous. She was my grandmother, but she treated everyone around her like they were family. She gave me unconditional love and was a great inspiration to me.
My grandmother was completely blind. When I would visit her, she would take my hand, and through that gesture, that touch, she knew it was me. Anyone else could take her hand and she had no idea who was there. But she knew the touch of my hand. We had a wonderful bond between us. When I tried to decide what to call my organization I thought of her and how much she inspired me. I decided to call Djigeni Craft after the name of her village.
My grandmother had horrible sorrow in her life, but she was so strong. Despite the early and violent loss of her husband and her daughter, she always maintained a positive attitude. She didn’t show grief or heartache. She celebrated this beautiful world and the people in it by always being happy, always having a smile on her face. By always being kind to those around her.
At THE DJIGENI CRAFT we love arts and crafts, which is why we opened up in the first place - it was a chance to build a beloved hobby into a business. Our staff is like one big family, friendly and full of tips and advice. No matter what you’re looking for, we’ll always do our best to find it for you. We’d love to meet you soon and get you on your way to creating beautiful masterpieces!
